Book of the month

The hidden brain drain: Off-ramps and on-ramps in womens' careers - A Harvard Business Review Research Report

If you still havent had a copy of this fascinating and well researched report – order it now from www.hbr.org. The report looks at why corporations have done such a dismal job of retaining female talent. In fact they actually make it easy for women to leave. One of the most startling findings is that none of the women interviewed who were returning to work after a career break in Financial Services wanted to go back to the company that she left.

Agenda for Change

by Jane Campion, eve-olution's strategic coach

The most influential voices on diversity and women in the workplace (see last month's newsletter) have created an agenda which eve-olution's coach, Jane Campion, finds irresistible. The issues are fundamental to diverse workplaces and greater productivity…and greater personal satisfaction for everyone at work.

This month's issue: A majority of organisations aren't realising the competitive advantage of a diverse workforce. Read the coaching tip and the individual way to meet this challenge. (MS Word document, 112kb)

Jane Campion is eve-olution's strategic coach. She coaches senior executives and their organisations towards peak performance and lasting change. Email her at jane@eve-olution.net with feedback and ideas for future tips.

Survey 2005 Feedback – thank you

Dear eve-olution

I have just read with great interest this year's survey and had to say how much I related to so many of the comments. I was particularly pleased to see that I was not alone in wanting to focus on getting the job done rather than on office politics. I became self-employed from Arthur Andersen in 1994 and happily declared my office a politic-free zone. I always felt that I was being measured by a yardstick designed for use with a man and they simply didn't have one to measure my performance, somehow results didn't always seem to count on their own.

Thanks for sending the survey to me. I wish you luck in your efforts to change perceptions.

Melanie Lord

Thank you very much to the many men and women who wrote in as a result of the survey – Women Leaders Speak Out 2005; In search of a cultured company. We are particularly grateful to the growing band of men who are lending their voice to the call for change. This includes the men that work with and for eve-olution who believe in inclusion not separation and collaboration not command and control. Who believe in a new way of working - for all - that improves effectiveness and productivity and who believe that not paying attention to diversity and inclusion and continuing to allow the current brain drain is tantamount to asset stripping their companies.
