Book of the month

Brit-Think, Ameri-Think by Jane Walmsley

A funny and perceptive book on understanding the great cultural divide between yanks and Brits – from food to religion and war to humour. Perhaps most importantly of all for those of us who work with our transatlantic neighbours – this candid book will tell you all you need to know about the differences in our attitudes and aspirations.

Harvard Business Review – Your weapon in the coming war for talent

by Tracey Carr, CEO eve-olution

Last month the Harvard Business Review published a research report The Hidden Brain Drain: Off-Ramps And On-Ramps in Women's Careers.

Finding and retaining the best talent is a constant concern for CEO's focused on driving growth and our organisations could soon be facing a talent shortage that is severe enough to disrupt operations and constrain growth.

Consider the following facts:

  • After a two-year jobless recovery, unemployment is down and labour markets are beginning to tighten.
  • The baby-bust generation is about to hit 'prime time', with the number of workers in the 35-45 year age group shrinking
  • Productivity improvements are flattening out
  • Immigration levels are stable
  • Women are in retreat. The big surge in labour force participation rates for women seems to be over. Indeed, for women in their thirties partcipation rates are actually going down

Harvard Business Review

The HBR suggests that organsiations can turn this challenge into an opportunity by focusing on the retention and reattachment of highly qualified women.

eve-olution can work with you to retain and promote the highly qualified women within your professional and managerial ranks which will deliver a powerful advantage when your competitors are struggling to recruit and retain talent.

Our proven methodologies are backed up by our extensive research on why professional women move in and out of the workforce and we can deliver a step change process for culture-change in your organisation. No matter where you are at in the Gender Diversity Cycle – our highly skilled and professional consultants and trainers can support your journey.

Steps toward change may include the following interventions:

  • Strategic planning
  • Board familiarisation
  • Leading Edge – modular leadership development for women
  • Mars and Venus at Work – gender cultural differences
  • Cultural Differences – for global organisations
  • 360 degree feedback for female leaders
  • Psychometric testing
  • Diagnostic tools

The Harvard Business Review research project states that 'corporations have done a dismal job of retaining female talent. Indeed they make it easy for women to leave'

Don't be left behind! Learn about the best practices of firms that are currently using eve-olution's unique programmes. Our ultimate goal is to give companies the tools to effectively compete in the new war for talent.
